The H.F. link - Miranda maintained a constant 24 hour link with Portishead Radio from here with a dedicated operator back in the UK (GKK). All the weather traffic, incoming and outgoing, operational messages etc. were dealt with here. Marconi 'Crusader' main 1kW transmitter on the left, 'Apollo' main receiver and backup Redifon R408 receiver.
The background audio (morse code) on this page is "DE GKK" i.e. 'from Portishead Radio' This was always monitored in the radio room as we waited for new 'traffic'!

The other 'Crusader' main transmitter and two R408 receivers used for trawler communications and weather forecasts on 2182 and 2223 kHz. The old 'Oceanspan' reserve transmitter can be seen in the centre.

The auxilliary rack containing 'lifeguard' autoalarm, autokey, battery charging panel and the emergency receiver!

Weather fax, broadcast receivers and of course a fire extinguisher in case it all went 'poof'!
